Separate a company assistant from public search

A custom GPT can use instructions and files to answer questions about your business. For example, a pool builder could give its own GPT a process guide so it can explain what happens at a site visit. That guide helps users of that GPT. To make the same information discoverable in public search, publish an accurate version on your website.

OpenAI documents separate crawler controls for ChatGPT search and potential model training. OAI-SearchBot is the search crawler. GPTBot relates to content that may be used to train foundation models. Review each setting against what you want the content used for.

Make the evidence specific to the customer’s question

If you want to be considered for pool renovations, explain which renovation jobs you take, where you work and how you assess an existing pool. Show a completed renovation with permission. That gives a buyer public information to compare with another provider.

When testing, leave your name out of the question. Asking “What does my company do?” tests brand recognition. Asking which companies can handle a specific job in your area tests whether you are considered alongside alternatives.
