AI SEO FAQ
How do I measure whether ChatGPT mentions my business?
Keep a fixed set of buyer questions. For each run, record whether your company was recommended, whether a page on your site was cited, and which other businesses appeared. Use referral data separately to see whether visitors reached your site.
Write questions that a prospective customer could ask
Choose one service and city to start. A plumbing company might compare questions about water heater replacement, same-day repairs and tankless installation. Keep your business name out, and record the exact wording, date, platform and whether web search was enabled. Repeat the same questions after you publish a meaningful change.
Keep unavailable runs separate. If your company is recommended in two of four completed answers and one test failed, report two of four and record the failure. Those five tests describe a small sample. Include the question set whenever you share the result.
Track recommendations, citations and visits separately
An answer might recommend your business while citing a directory. It might also cite your guide without recommending you. Record the business name and the cited URL separately so you can see what changed.
In GA4, look for ChatGPT as a traffic source and compare visits with the actions you track, such as an enquiry or a booking. Moritscls’s free check runs 5–10 questions through an OpenAI API model with web search. Use the same method when comparing runs, and keep any manual ChatGPT app checks in a separate column.
